When Mattel was dealing with the success of MGA's competitive Bratz, they came up with the idea for My Scene with the slogan "My city, my style, my scene." The market was apparently ripe for a certain change and girls were interested in new, modernly dressed dolls. They wanted to play with what they saw around them, and urban style, millennial fashion, and above all technology were important. The toys were produced from 2002-2011, and Jammin' in Jamaica was the first movie included with the dolls. It was released on VCD as well as DVD. The film was based on the aesthetics of animated online videos and, of course, it was a simple story about a group of teens. Retrospectively, it's nothing groundbreaking, but it's also not harmful. ()
