Born in Heringsdorf, Germany in 1948, he studied cinematography at the German Academy of Cinematic Art ‘Konrad Wolf’ from 1969 to 1972. He subsequently worked there as a teaching assistant in directing, later as a lecturer in cinematography, and graduated in 1995 with a diploma in directing. As a director, writer and cinematographer he has focused especially on documentaries. His films, which have screened at numerous festivals, include Moment musical(1973), Komm in den Garten (1990), Usedom. Ein deutsches Inselleben, Teil 1 (1993). Between 2002 and 2004 he was project manager at Xenos Media, where he was a lecturer in media education for pupils, teachers and social workers.
