Biografía
Julie White began her professional career in New York appearing in such off-Broadway plays as “Lucky Stiff,” “The Stick Wife,” “Just Say No,” “The Family of Mann” and a starring role in “Spike Heels” with Kevin Bacon and Tony Goldwyn. On Broadway, she won accolades for her performance in Wendy Wasserstein’s “The Heidi Chronicles” for which she reprised her role in the TNT movie starring Jamie Leigh Curtis. She originated the role of Beth in Donald Margulis’ Pulitzer Prize-winning “Dinner with Friends” and was included in the New York Times’ Top Ten of the Year for her work in Theresa Rebeck’s “Bad Dates” and Daniel Stern’s “Barbra’s Wedding.” Also on Broadway, Julie starred in Douglas Carter Beane’s “The Little Dog Laughed” playing the conniving Hollywood power broker Diane, a role she originated at Second Stage and subsequently played in Los Angeles at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. For her performance she won the Tony Award for Best Actress and an Obie Award. She also received numerous nominations including for a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, the Drama League Award and a Lucille Lortel Award for her outstanding work.
On the big screen Julie was seen in the much-lauded festival favorite, “Morning,” directed and starring Leland Orser, along with Jeanne Tripplehorn, Laura Linney and Charlie McDermott. Next up she will appear in the romantic comedy “Language of a Broken Heart” and the crime drama “Inside Out” with Parker Posey.
In 2009 White appeared in “Breaking Upwards” with Zoe Lister Jones and Andrea Martin and lent her voice to Disney’s animated hit, “Aliens vs. Monsters.” Her other movies include “The Nanny Diaries” starring Laura Linney and Scarlett Johansson, Tony Gilroy’s “Michael Clayton” with George Clooney in the title role, “The Astronaut Farmer” starring Billy Bob Thornton, “War of the Worlds,” “Slap Her…She’s French,” “Say It Isn’t So” and “What Women Want.” Julie returns to the role of Judy Witwicky, having originated it in “Transformers”.
On television Julie’s recurring roles include Leslie in the ABC comedy “Cavemen,” Dr. Anne Morella in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” Mitzi Dalton-Huntley in “Six Feet Under” and as series regular Nadine Swoboda in “Grace under Fire.” She has also made many guest appearances on such shows as “Strong Medicine,” “JAG,” “Touched by an Angel,” “Arli$$” and “Law & Order.” In 2009 White appeared in HBO’s critically acclaimed “Taking Chance” with Kevin Bacon, which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Born in San Diego and raised in Texas, White attended Fordham University.
