Carpatia takes you on a poetic journey of time through the rural mountainous regions of Europe. It starts out east of Vienna, and continues to Slovakia, Poland, the Ukraine and Romania, stopping in places and regions that not only geographically lie ‘just outside of Europe’. They may seem completely foreign to us, but nonetheless allow us to connect with common cultural and historical roots. We visit farmers, shepherds and magicians, rafters, golddiggers and gypsies. People who appear to be living the life of past centuries tell about their daily life. Fascinating landscape photography, surprising details and a subtle soundtrack give this film a magical flavour.
