A beautiful Slovak fairy tale. Maybe even the best. Fantastic poetics, beautiful locations. Jakubisko skillfully mixes mystical and progressive motifs and adds a wisecracking hero who is afraid of nothing and kicks death's ass.

I put off The Feather Fairy for quite a long time and after watching it, I understand its cult status in the field of fairy tales. With the film’s international cast and audiovisual approach, you senses Juraj Jakubisko’s great ambition to elevate the classic Grimm story beyond the fairy tale, towards a poetic film. The aforementioned cast was good - I would single out Giulietta Masina and Valerie Kaplanova in particular. Only the post-synchro has been badly affected by the ravages of time. I'm curious to see what the sequel will look like, if we ever see it.
