Láska (1973)

inglés An ironic normalization blend on the theme of love. Brutally funny are the youthful scenes of Schaller and Kaiser and of course their classmates Kraus and Zavřel. The mature romance between Dvorská and Velecký is better. On the other hand, the supposedly awkward stylization is refreshing and even a film like Love feels fresh during the period of the incredible crap at the beginning of normalization.

All Forgotten (2001)

inglés It's a huge shame that we see Kirsten Dunst in costume dramas so rarely! She is usually seen as a modern face from the present or from various decades of the 20th century, but opulent silhouettes with corsets and wide skirts and fabulously melancholic protagonists are rare pleasures indeed. True, early on there was Interview with the Vampire and Little Women, but after that cruelly passionate combination of Turgenev and Chekhov, Kirsten was offered only Marie Antoinette. And yet I think the heat and great feelings of romantic characters from great literature would suit her admirably. It's fascinating to watch her, barely twenty years old, breaking the hearts of a whole cohort of grown men, playing with them and, of course, loving the one who is still too young for real life the most.

Větrná hora (1955)

inglés A panopticon of madness. What kind of movie is this, anyway? An adventure? An educational mess? A guide to life? A study of human destiny? Everything and nothing. It's so damn futile. And, of course, there is love in it. Both mature and teenage. After all, Marie Kyselková was really more of a mannequin than an actress.

Midnight Special (2016)

inglés An interesting genre representative. It’s a good idea, suspenseful until the last shot. Beyond that, I appreciated Kirsten Dunst playing up the maternal roles, and I'm always happy to see Michael Shannon too. However, this is not my favorite genre and I don't feel like I want to pursue it more.

Noche de reyes o lo que vosotros queráis (1996)

inglés Of the Shakespeare films of the 1990s, I remember Zeffirelli's Hamlet and Hoffman's A Midsummer Night's Dream most, though that decade was more dominated by Branagh and Taymor (and Luhrmann, of course). This Twelfth Night: Or What You Will is seemingly much less ambitious, giving opportunities mainly to the romantically melancholic Helena Bonham Carter and the charming Imogen Stubbs, with Ben Kingsley and Toby Stephens being more of a safe bet.

Figuras ocultas (2016)

inglés I'll admit that if it weren't for Kirsten Dunst in a supporting role, I would have definitely missed out on Hidden Figures. But Kirsten has good taste, and her name and character are well portrayed, if only in just a few images, which certainly "adorns" this sure bet. Finally, her secondary storyline and that of Jim Parsons represent the most pressing thing the main characters had to contend with. Or racial segregation, NASA, and the American response to Gagarin. It’s worth a recommendation.

El secreto de una obsesión (2015)

inglés This crime drama is cast as an all-star film, but the typology is somehow lacking. That’s too bad, because Julia, Nicole, and Alfred Molina are all very good actors. But this genre is not their ideal environment. Well, never mind, it'll be better next time.

13. komnata - 13. komnata Ivana Palúcha (2011) (episodio)

inglés Even Slovakia has its own fairy tale about an actor with an international career in the 1960s who was denied everything during normalization. I don't want to diminish the qualities of Ivan Palúch, but if he is, according to a film historian, the most brilliant of all, it is a somewhat shaky balance. Should a few successful acting moments represent the best Slovakia has given to world cinema? Come on. The 13th Chamber is a powerful human story. Unfortunately, Palúch’s professional career only falls into the popular "could have been wonderful if" category, and there have been many of those. Alas.

Shakespeare enamorado (1998)

inglés It took me a long time to come to terms with this view of Elizabethan theater, but so be it. The ethereal Gwyneth Paltrow is really lovely here, and one really does at least get some idea that there were other theaters than the Globe and other playwrights than Wilda. And maybe I'll finally get around to reading "Twelfth Night, or What You Will."

La princesa prometida (1987)

inglés A fairy-tale fantasy that fits into the popular 1980s. Unfortunately, I missed out on this one as a kid, so today I can only appreciate the fact that Buttercup has so far become the general on the island of the Amazons in Wonder Woman.
