Pisando fuerte (2004)

inglés A short, an unpretentious, easygoing film in the style of late 1980s B-movies. Nothing worth remembering, but almost perfect to fill 72 minutes. Dwayne's great as always, but he needs a breakthrough role, otherwise he will be thoroughly forgotten.

Little Nicky (2000)

inglés The pitifgul awkwardness named Sandler is to die for after the opening scene, but over the course of the running time the creators (unsurprisingly not Sandler) manage a few successful jokes, so it's bearable. It's hard to enjoy, though.

Nuevo Cinema Paradiso (1988)

inglés Or why it took me years to go to a multiplex. Along with the first Indy, this was the film that most sparked my love for cinema.

El show de Truman (Una vida en directo) (1998)

inglés Making a movie about a reality show that follows somebody’s life from the moment of his birth is an idea worth a million. And with somebody of Weir’s caliber in the director’s chair, it’s worth two. It succeeds in sucking you into the life of Truman Burbank which is suddenly crossed by another storyline (the subject of which is obvious, but it’s till a spoiler) after about two hours of the movie. It’s funny, but at the same time chilling how everybody apart from Carrey performs like straight out of a telenovela, casually interjecting advertising slogans and so on. This is a really emotionally charged movie. And it has a wonderful soundtrack from Glass and the movie becomes ever more powerful every time you watch it again. Who wouldn’t root for Truman in his quest for freedom? So I say to you, Truman, if we never see each other again: “Good afternoon, good evening and good night!"

Hechizada (2004)

inglés A really funny and sweet fairy tale that openly borrows from Shrek and The Princess Bride? Far from it... This is a harmless and completely trivial TV fairytale for a weekend morning. There are a couple of decent ideas, but the humor doesn’t work well, the characters are unlikeable and on top of that it looks like a downmarket Hallmark production.

¡Olvídate de mí! (2004)

inglés Originally, I wanted to write a longwinded analysis of my love for this playful jewel of a movie. But after watching it a few times over, I said to myself “to the hell with it". So, in brief: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind simply IS the best movie to be made (not only) over the past years. Want to know why? If that’s the case, you’ll have to watch the fatal relationship of Joel and Clementine (...no jokes about her name!) for yourselves. It’s an experience that’s just indescribable in words.

Adaptation (El ladrón de orquídeas) (2002)

inglés A loopy movie from the pen of Kaufmann. And this time about himself. Alternative title: How to write a movie about a book adaptation while using all possible “Hollywood" clichés. I’m just interested in what kind of guy Charlie is in real life. The only thing lacking is “loopier" directing, because Jonze’s is just too ordinary and unimaginative. This style just isn’t suited to Kaufman’s things at all (Gondry is the one). I consider this to be the third best movie that he wrote the screenplay to. P.S. It’s well worth waiting for the credits to end.

The Station Agent (Vías cruzadas) (2003)

inglés This comes very close to five stars. An unbelievable picker-upper if you’re feeling down. But given the hype preceding this movie, in the end it’s not such a miracle movie-wise. But it plainly works full on, which may sound strange, but it’s true. You can best imagine it if you can remember how you felt after watching Ghost Dog. Of course if you leave out the “violence, action and mafia" elements and just keep the part about relationships. The acting performances are great and the characters likeable. Simply an easygoing movie to raise your spirits.

Gothika (2003)

inglés Gothika isn't boring, it's just relentlessly stupid in almost every way. The script in particular is enormously dull. From about a third of the way through, everything is clear and we watch the slow, poorly acted progression of the protagonist towards the "shocking" twist.

Krkonošské pohádky (1974) (serie)

inglés How the imperialist Trautenberg suffers at the hands of the crafty Commie, Kuba... Without Kuba and Anča, I would have given this a full set of stars. However, this couple from Hell do play an important part here and absolutely wreck the paste-board impression, the jaybird snitch, the gamekeeper, the kind and fair mountain spirit Krakonoš and, of course, the jolly Trautenberg. I think he and I could have been good friends.
