El contable (2016)

inglés A sophisticated B-movie, which pretends to be serious but in fact it’s a movie about a guy who combines Will Hunting/Jason Bourne/John Nash/Frank Castle/Raymond Babbitt/John Wick. Simply put Chuck Norris doesn’t stand a change. So a mathematical autistic outstanding genius accountant is chasing everyone with a gun in his hand and tries to cope with matters of the heart and uncompromising fatherly love among countless headshots. Simply B-movie, roller-coaster ride. The movie is simply a lot of fun. It shouldn't work on paper and it should have been silly and have had potential to win this year's Golden Raspberries Award. But... But contrary to all expectations, it works. And really well (especially in the first half). It's distinctive in a way good-old European crime movie of 1970s used to be. The only weak point is silly effort for the final twist, relying on the identity of one of the characters. At the same time, it was only in the middle of the movie when I realized that the characters/viewers, according to the creators, probably are not supposed know it from the very beginning.

Before the Flood (2016)

inglés Leo's deeply personal essay on his long-term struggle with windmills, certainly not a document in the true sense of the word. It’s impressive solely because of its urgent immediacy and visible effort to draw attention to something and to make a difference. It can be urgent and persuasive without slipping into the mode of a Jehovist on your doorstep "who has come to talk to you about global warming for your personal good". It's just a little ridiculous (if not hypocritical) that the whole world travels by plane and helicopter and at the same time it is talking about importance to avoid it. However, I assume that it's all about causing small evil for a sake of achieving higher good, and without this there would not have been the best scenes, such as a disputation with an Indian woman. Although it is not an investigative document, you will also be pleased about the fact that there is an effort to look at the topic from several perspectives (scenes focused on the beef, etc.).

Black Mirror - Cállate y baila (2016) (episodio)

inglés Cyberbullying in a tech trolling thriller riding the Simon Says wave. The escalating tension of a deadlocked situation to (and beyond) the very edge of bearability. In that respect, it smacks of Watkins's debut Eden Lake. The cherry on top is the pleasantly relativising twist.

Black Mirror - Partida (2016) (episodio)

inglés Straight into oblivion. Paranoia² or facing the depths of madness through play psychotherapy. Excellently constructed, it's just a shame about the slower pace and the main character who is too much of a typecast American Joe to be likeable in the way that this type of story demands.

Black Mirror - Caída en picado (2016) (episodio)

inglés Hypocrisy (1*) with a mannered American sweet smile on his lips (2*) made through social "InstaSnapTinder" (and Home Improvement; 4*) ad absurdum. In any case, transferring Brooker (5*) under the wings of Netflix (4*) and overseas (3 *) caused absolutely no harm. It is still chillingly up-to-date, apt, satirical, critical, with detached view and worthy of reflection. Only this time it lacks a driving force... Um, actually it lacks five stars, because approximately in the middle it’s only playing with completely the same only in more ways, although Howard handles shy "quaternary" mode brilliantly, but she tends to obviously overplay the tense "secondary" one.

Black Mirror - El momento Waldo (2013) (episodio)

inglés Waldo-rrific! At first, I thought that the inspiration (apart from the current mood of Western society) was, among other things, taken from the story of the mayor of Reykjavík. But it turned out not to be so, sadly, because it is the (un) conclusion out of spite not giving a damn about politics, the profit against the bear that somewhat scores an own goal. It is not clearly bad, only insipid, and it should have been completely different.

Black Mirror - Oso blanco (2013) (episodio)

inglés Get your popcorn ready, we are getting started! Today's society no longer needs the concept of hell, people themselves are the creators of the most formidable Sisyphus hell, where the roles of the guilty/punishing person get intertwined and blurred. The closing credentials, as a bonus, are by far the most terrifying. Enjoy yourself!

Black Mirror - Ahora mismo vuelvo (2013) (episodio)

inglés We live more online than in real life and we don't know how to deal with death. Intimate and definitely the most thematically relevant episode yet, which could have been the best if it hadn't run out of breath in the final minutes. Anyway, the motion sensitive images of dead people from Harry Potter are very disturbing.

Black Mirror - Toda tu historia (2011) (episodio)

inglés From life itself. Without exaggeration the best (and most "real") use of sci-fi elements I've ever seen. Of course, it could have been done without them, because the strength here lies in the emotions. And now I’m going to watch it again, and again... And again.

Black Mirror - El himno nacional (2011) (episodio)

inglés It is true that you do not negotiate with extortionists and certainly do not give in to them, but hypocritical public opinion must be hypocritically followed at all times. Oink, oink.
