Nordvest (2013)

inglés Michael Noer serves up typically stark, cold and unflinching filmmaking from the North, and the film is most reminiscent of Refn's Dealer. Copenhagen's underworld is close to London's, and the film's unpleasant atmosphere breathes from every corner. Roland Møller as the prototypical bastard is again excellent and Gustav Dyekjær Giese also gives a very decent performance. I love these films, so I'm very satisfied. 85%.

8 millas (2002)

inglés Another long overdue film and I am very satisfied. The harsh setting of Detroit is portrayed believably, Eminem is cool and the only thing that disappointed me is that there weren't more Rap battles. Anyway, the finale is awesome. Anthony Mackie showed that he can handle the role of antagonist. 80%

Valkiria (2008)

inglés I avoided the film for a long time, but in the end it is a solid suspenseful spy-war film about the overthrow of Hitler. Tom Cruise is excellent in the lead role and even though I couldn't get into the film for the first half hour, once Operation Valkyrie started I didn't even flinch.

La llorona (2019)

inglés The anticipated La Llorona is ultimately a big disappointment and The Conjuring 3 is in great danger. Debutant Michael Chaves directs a dull and overly sterile horror film that could have at least leaned on interesting Mexican folklore, but even on that level it fails to impress. The big problem I see is that la Llorona only really focuses on the two central kids, but if it had focused on the other kids in town, more interesting things could have happened. As it is, the plot isn't very entertaining and the actual scares, rather than startling, will wake you from your microsleep. It lacks atmosphere, stronger drive, better pacing and more interesting characters, instead we get a many times seen and tedious mainstream horror hell. A class below The Nun and actually the weakest installment of the Conjuring Universe. The film will please at most teenage girls who go to the cinema to hang out. The best part of the whole movie was the fact that I got it for free. 40%

I'll Take Your Dead (2018)

inglés The new film from director Chad Archibald, who four years ago surprised with the solid body horror Bite, but apparently it was just a fluke, because the rest of his work isn't worth much. The film has a fairly novel and appealing premise about a guy who makes his living disposing of corpses that gangsters dump at his door, and it's a shame that there aren't any explicit scenes along those lines. Everything changes once one of the "corpses" turns out to be still alive. It's odd that the film comes across as more of a drama. It may not be downright boring, but there are no interesting moments at all. The acting is mediocre and the final action sequence is shot in a very cheap and uninteresting way. The main character and his daughter are likeable, but that is not enough to make a good film. I expected more. 40%

Extremadamente cruel, malvado y perverso (2019)

inglés You should definitely be prepared for the fact that the new treatment doesn't focus on Ted Bundy's rampage, but rather on its consequences, and I was very happy with it. Zac Efron has one foot in the electric chair and one foot in the Oscar, because not only does he give his best performance to date, but he will also stay in your memory for a long time. He will surprise a lot of people here with his acting qualities. The film more or less avoids violence and we follow Bundy's trials, his escape from prison and his relationship, and the most interesting thing is that his girlfriend had absolutely no idea what he was. It's got a very nice pace, a decent retro vibe, perfect courtroom scenes where Bundy confidently defends himself and downright wipes his ass with the judges, the lawyers and the whole proceedings. It's interesting that you are more or less rooting for Bundy, because he's likeable on the surface and he is very eloquent, but we all know he's a man who doesn't belong in society. The film is also decently emotional at the end and the acting is absolutely spot on. For me, a nice surprise this year, but not everyone will be happy with this version. 80%

La isla de los olvidados (2010)

inglés The film is set in 1915 on a deserted island in Norway, home to a reformatory for juvenile delinquents. The institute is run by the sadistic hand of Stellan Skarsgård, who gives an amazing performance. The Scandinavians at its best with its no-holds-barred atmosphere, excellent performances, a gritty to uncomfortable setting with plenty of tension and a ruthless ending. Very good. 80%

Kfc (2017)

inglés Vietnam is pulling another horror film out of the bag after a long time (for the hardened and with a strong stomach). Cinematically, it's pretty bad. Bad actors, weaker visuals, a strangely retrospectively told story that is easy to get lost in, and most importantly I didn't understand what was going on at all, and I'm afraid the director is in a similar boat. The film is called Kfc perhaps only because they went there about four times for food. When it comes to the filth, on the other hand, it worked. There's cannibalism, necrophilia, rape, nasty torture (teeth pulling and tongues being cut-off makes me quite uncomfortable). It doesn't hurt to watch this sort of thing once in a while, but there have been far better films, like the recent Trauma. 50%

Vengadores: Endgame (2019)

inglés The culmination of the year's and indeed the century's cinematic event (the last time Harry Potter ended this way), the film lived up to its hype and delivered a perfect farewell to filmmaking so mature that I'm not afraid to call the Russo brothers a directorial powerhouse alongside Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino. With trailers that give almost nothing away, you will be surprised, shocked and emotionally wrung to the max for two and a half hours. Even though the film feels more like a heart-pounding drama for two hours (the action proper doesn't until the end), it doesn't matter at all because story-wise the film offers a lot. The time travel in particular presented in a very creative and entertaining way. The Hulk along with Thor take care of the humour, and the emotions work very well, too, at least three scenes had me in tears. Once the epic finale starts, I was absolutely buried in my seat, enjoying the ecstasy with orgasm so much that I still had trouble getting up ten minutes after it was over and I was also half paralyzed to the point of having trouble picking up my drink. Yeah I can't even remember such an experience I took away from the cinema. I can't imagine kids having fun with this movie. 100%.

The Prodigy (2019)

inglés This year has been poor so far except for Pet Sematary, Us and Escape Room, but the overlooked The Prodigy is a nice thing and for me an unexpected surprise. I expected nothing but mediocrity from the director of the horror film The Pact, but in the end this is a very disturbing and psychologically gripping horror film about a young boy who is unusually intelligent and uncomfortably aggressive. I liked that the boy is not possessed by a demon or any supernatural force, as is usual with similar genre films, but rather originally the film focuses on reincarnation, which is an interesting topic in itself. It's well acted, decently shot, engaging from start to finish, and there are some decent scares, including a pleasantly sharp finale. Better than I had hoped for and certainly a better choice than this year's similarly-themed The Hole in the Ground. 80%
