Green Room (2015)

inglés After a long time, a horror film in a more brutal package. It starts off slower, but from the 40 minute mark it becomes a decent rough ride of solid gore (although there could have been a bit more), and the fighting dogs, the Nazis, the punk music, the ugly setting are all welcome. It's not a pretty watch, but the pacing is brisk, and Green Room is definitely one of the better ones this year. 75%

Expediente Warren: El caso Enfield (2016)

inglés James Wan's The Conjuring 2 was the clear dark horse of this year, and even though I find it a bit weaker than the first part, it will probably still take the first place this year. Wan's signature is evident in every aspect. Excellent camera work, impressive interiors, when a scare is supposed to come it doesn't and vice versa (Wan is just great at this), and I have to praise the villains, the Nun and the Crooked man were so amazing that I want to see a solo movie with them (The Nun is even confirmed already). The first hour suffocates with a pretty aggressive pace where almost every five minutes you don’t know what's coming next, but after the Warrens arrive there is a pretty long pause where I was bored at times, for which I also take off a star. The finale, though shorter, is decent. The exorcism in the basement in the first one was more intense though. As far as scares go, only two impressed me, but that's more due to the number of horror films I've seen and my resistance to scares. There isn't and won't be anything better in the horror genre, and that needs to be acknowledged. Story 7/10, Atmosphere 9/10, Gore 0/10, Visuals 8/10, Action 6/10, Suspense 8/10, Humor 3/10. Entertainment 8/10, Scares 7/10. 85%.

Ahora me ves 2 (2016)

inglés For me, a quality sequel on a similar level to the first part. On the plus side, Daniel Radcliffe (though ironically, I expected him to be a magician too) and the seductive Lizzy Caplan add some pizzazz. It's true that the story is too overwrought and chaotic in places, making you feel that either you or the director are getting lost, but in the end it results in another great game of twists and surprises that I can't complain about. Compared to other blockbusters, Now You See Me 2 certainly doesn't come across as naive or silly, and also, who would expect a film focusing on tricks, illusions and magic to have an exceedingly excellent story? That's like complaining that there's no action or blood in the drama genre. The magic is top notch. There are two highlights in the film and that is the card/chip scene and the final climax of the four riders, it takes your breath away intensely with the support of a great soundtrack. The ultimate entertainment that is great to watch and think about. Story 8/10, Atmosphere 8/10, Gore 0/10, Visuals 9/10, Action 7/10, Suspense 7/10, Humour 6/10. Entertainment 8/10. 80%

Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

inglés An enjoyable likeable romantic comedy that I find a nice refresher after blockbusters, horror and Asian films. Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling are brilliant, the bar scenes are great, and the interesting twists and tricks are a delight. The highlight is the hilarious scene at the garden reunion, it will make your sides hurt. 80%.

Xiao shi de zi dan (2012)

inglés An unexpected gem for almost a full score. Sherlock Holmes turned out great in Hong Kong style. There are familiar faces, the protagonist is an intelligent detective who tries to put himself in the shoes of the victim in every case, meaning he is forced to go through interesting and dangerous things in order to crack the case, and that is the most interesting and entertaining part of the film. The plus points are of course the excellent visuals, the excellent almost perfect final twist, the brisk pace and the thoughtfulness from start to finish. If you like detective stories, this one is not to be missed. 85%

Sungnan byeonhosa (2015)

inglés This was good. Although Seon-gyoon Lee plays an arrogant lawyer, you root for him, because he has great lines, he is intelligent, he can get out of everything, because with bribed courts, it's easy. He already shone in A Hard Day, here he only confirms his acting qualities. The plot revolves around a murder case, which is fortunately shown in a solidly brutal style that will please any eyes, but there is no body or evidence, which causes complications for the main character. There are also some interesting twists throughout, with the most important one being literally shocking, and the ending takes an unexpected turn and suddenly we a courtroom drama becomes a solid thriller. A very entertaining film. 80%.

Geomsawejeon (2016)

inglés Not powerful and consistent enough for a prison film. The visuals are okay, the familiar acting faces are nice, the action is mostly nonexistent, the plot seems interesting only at first, then fizzles out into nothing, the pace is tepid and the twist is not groundbreaking. It's watchable, but not a revelation. 55%

The Funhouse Massacre (2015)

inglés Much more was expected from The Funhouse Massacre. Robert Englund is only there for the first few minutes, the central five psychopaths are well portrayed and have solid masks too, but unfortunately they have minimal space and don't act at all as they should. As for the gore, it's clearly lacking in resources, it's very artificial in places (the dummies are more than obvious), but it's thankfully not that bad, but it was similar in the 80s. On the plus side, the humour is fine in places and the technical aspects are good, but overall it's below average and not very recommendable. Story 2/10, Atmosphere 4/10, Gore 3/10, Visuals 5/10, Action 4/10, Suspense 2/10, Humour 5/10. Entertainment 5/10. 40%.

Warcraft: El origen (2016)

inglés If someone had told me that Warcraft would hold the top spot in my top ten, I would have laughed at them. I haven't played the game, but I enjoyed every title, city, character or creature all the more, I watched the movie like a deer and devoured every second of it, which is a positive outcome. The visuals are top notch and even though there are only four major action scenes, they have a lot of oomph when accompanied by the amazing music, in short, it's something to watch. Ragnar fits here like a glove, and you watch Vikings you will be delighted. There's also decent dialogue, quite a few death characters, and great production design. Nothing to fault here, certainly the best fantasy film since the LoTR trilogy, and the best cinematic adaptation of a game (we'll see how Assassin Creed turns out). I can't wait to see how this saga grows into hopefully at least seven more installments. Cinema a must, subtitles a must. I left the cinema downright excited after a long time, saying to myself, I want to see this again. Story 7/10, Atmosphere 9/10, Gore 1/10, Visuals 10/10, Action 10/10, Suspense 8/10, Humor 6/10. Entertainment 10/10. 100%.

Dos buenos tipos (2016)

inglés Slight disappointment. The Nice Guys is carried in a lovely retro style with a solid leading duo, though Ryan Gosling whines a bit too much like a little girl here, which bothered me at times, but thankfully Russel Crowe is properly tough and uncompromising. The action is very good, but it was unfortunately lacking, resulted in frequent deaf passages, and the film runs out of breath in the last 20 minutes. I found the film hardly funny at all and the dialogues between the leading couple hardly worked, lacking the right chemistry. I liked the light R-rated stuff and a couple of original scenes, but it could have been better. Add more action, a more interesting twist, speed up the pace and I would have been more satisfied. 65%
