Siberia (1998)

inglés A mix of styles borrowed from the American independent scene lightly spiced with Tarantino (the protagonists are three little thieves and scammers) and the European film movement of the 90s focused on the young generation with flashy editing and techno music. It has a decent pace with some humorous situations. Though not groundbreaking, it is an above-average comedy. Overall impression: 70%.

Serdce chrabreca (1950)

inglés A film that was outstanding for its time, with progressive animation, excellent drawings, and a strong storyline, which drew thematically from the myths of Far Eastern nations. Unfortunately, this well-known Soviet fairytale distorted these folk tales as part of its fight against religion and superstition, to the point where a timid hunter realizes that monsters don't exist and overcomes his fear in a "progressive" way. Fortunately, the animated fairy tale stays true to the original folk narrative. The resulting film remains impressive even today, in the era of full-length animated movies, and is fully suitable for young viewers. Overall impression: 75%.

Purgatory (1999) (telepelícula)

inglés A strange mix of a western and a religiously oriented film that will please especially Christian-oriented folks, a combination of an entertaining adventure spectacle exactly according to proven genre Western templates with biblical themes. It is decently acted and directed, but it did not appeal to me in terms of content, as it sticks to the traditional genre outline and numerous genre clichés, while the religious motifs, on the other hand, are not for me. Overall impression: 40%. By the way, as a horror film, it really doesn't work...

Pat Garrett y Billy the Kid (1973)

inglés An atypical western distinguished by a nostalgic mood, enhanced by excellent music and color filters tuned to sandy hues. While the film breaks certain myths and genre conventions, it creates others in turn. Primarily, it constructs the romantic myth of outlaws as followers and protectors of freedom. They were, pardon the expression, rather ordinary thugs and thieves, who, as the film rightly points out, often, under the pressure of civilization and pragmatism, became guardians of justice, sheriffs, and their deputies. Former comrades from criminal gangs often found themselves pitted against each other. Essentially, Sam Peckinpah idealizes the old Wild West and sees the advancing civilization as the decay of old positive values. However, that civilization brought with it the rule of law and social certainties. Beyond that, those old gunslingers didn't have as good aim as Peckinpah's films might suggest. Overall impression: 75%. It's nonetheless a decently acted and directed western where style is elevated above substance.

París, Texas (1984)

inglés This road movie is considered to be Wim Wenders' best film and I basically agree with that. It is a very slow film that relies on atmosphere, camera work that utilizes amazing American exteriors, and the ability to perfectly capture subtly conveyed emotions of the film's characters. Above all, it relies on perfectly chosen music, which complements the story. The actors we cast well and have precise acting performances. Harry Dean Stanton is beautifully worn out, Nastassja Kinski is fragile and innocent even during her performance in a peep show, and the child actor performs flawlessly. Overall impression: 90%. It is a film about the breakdown of a marriage and an attempt to return, if not to the role of a partner, then at least to the role of a parent.

Sopa de ganso (1933)

inglés Duck Soup was my first and last encounter with the work of the Marx brothers. If this film can be considered a showcase of their film productions, which it really is given the direction and evident attempt at an alternative style of cinematic language, then I have to say that the style of humor that was very popular at that time is simply not for me, as it seems cheap and pandering. Overall impression: 40%.

Král Ubu (1996)

inglés I don't think I'll ever see F. A. Brabec film a great action movie, even though I've experienced quite a lot in my life. The film has typical features of his work, i.e., excellent cinematography, artistic stylization, and a quality cast, but beyond that it falls short. Fans and connoisseurs of Alfred Jarry's work will probably suffer, and others will appreciate the absurdity of the story and its slapstick, although it is far from the quality of the original play. What stuck in my memory the most was Lucie Bílá with her film song. Overall impression: 55%.

El 4º mandamiento (1942)

inglés At the time it was made, it was an above-average film both thematically and in its execution, but I find its reviews to be quite exaggerated. Essentially, it's a classic studio romance with the necessary happy ending at the end. But that's how it goes; famous directors have it easier with fans. If I overlook a few cuts and camera movements, Orson Welles didn't significantly impact the film. Overall impression: 55%. The film might be interesting for its perspective on the beginnings of motorism in the United States, with the prophetic commentary of Eugene Morgan.

Lisa (1998) (serie)

inglés A didactic cartoon series about a little girl who explores the world of adults through her family and adventures in the surrounding area. It is intended for the youngest children and corresponds to that with animation, slow speech pace, and simple vocabulary. Despite all of that, it maintains a special poetic and decent level. Overall impression: 70%. The series is greatly aided by humorous exaggeration.

Bolek i Lolek (1963) (serie)

inglés This famous Polish animated series, considering when it was made, is more so for the older folks who remember it. It has never completely appealed to me with its style. It is a cartoon slapstick, created in response to American Disney-style slapsticks. Overall impression: 55%.
