Lance N' Masques (2015) (serie)

inglés At first, I thought this show would be about a young boy struggling with himself and his "white knight syndrome". I also expected it to be about whether chivalry has any place in today's world. I thought there would be some conflict between the modern and medieval worlds. Unfortunately, it is not really about those things at all. This original idea and interesting subject matter is only peripherally there to cover up a rather simple, almost flat narrative and, again, a certain amount of tropes. It is probably also there to make the main male protagonist look not so ordinary because it's his "white knight syndrome" that makes him a bit different from all the other "cookie-cutter" male protagonists. Now that is out of the way; I will tell you what I think it is about. This anime series is, first and foremost, a feast for those of us that anime society labels as "Lolicons". Even the opening, where the main female protagonist shows off her various cute poses, tells us something. Furthermore, even the animation style makes the female protagonists look as attractive as possible. It has quite a superficial narrative, and I guess the main gist is that the female protagonist is just a pitiful, incredibly cute Lolita girl who needs rescuing. The main male protagonist with his "syndrome" is simply the perfect person for the job. The heart of a person who likes cute things cheers this type of show on and has no problem sympathizing and rooting for the main male protagonist because protecting cute Lolita girls is simply the only right thing to do! What does it matter that many things seem illogical, exaggerated, and crazy? Furthermore, as the episodes go on, more girls come along, and among them is another cute Lolita girl, who also looks charming at first glance. What does it matter that she comes up with probably the biggest cliché we can experience in Lolita anime shows, i.e., she immediately addresses the main male protagonist as "daddy"? So the bottom line is that this is a very first-rate show, containing many things that annoyed me and that I do not find believable; however, since I am the target audience, the rest of it suited me down to the ground. So 6/10, and if you are not the target group, take two or three points off.

Lava (2015)

inglés Well yeah, the animation is good; the love story is OK even though it is also a trope, the song was fine, yet I only enjoyed the first two to three minutes. It is really too long, and it is like a merry-go-round at the fair. If I have to listen to it for an hour, I am going to go crazy! A mere average and that is mainly due to the good animation, and I would have a hard time watching it again. 4.3/10.

Little Witch Academia: Mahó šikake no Parade (2015)

inglés The movie Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade is the sequel of the first special short film Little Witch Academia. It is a little longer and a little more thought-out narrative than the first movie, and still interesting, charming, quite amusing, a little endearing, and very enjoyable. This franchise definitely deserves a longer fully-fledged anime series adaptation of some kind because, in addition to the really good setting, it also showcases a lot of interesting characters and good ideas. Admittedly I am not a fan of big social events, so the word "parade" only elicits a bored sigh of "right, a parade..." although I quite enjoyed it in this movie. The soundtrack stood out, which I also enjoyed, and it complemented the sometimes pleasant and sometimes suspenseful atmosphere well. 8/10.

Man Seeking Woman (2015) (serie)

inglés I have nothing against jokes taken to extremes, but this is literally way too over-the-top. It is a comedy whose first episode did not make me laugh even once, and the only word I can think of is embarrassing. In addition, unfortunately, it does not get better, so the comedy in this show does not work for me. Drop after the fifth episode.

Marvel - Daredevil (2015) (serie)

inglés "Is it really that good?" That is exactly the question I asked myself when I saw the reviews on FilmBooster and IMDb. I am not a big comic book fan. I probably like the DC universe and characters more than the Marvel universe, to be honest. I thought Ben Affleck’s Daredevil movie was completely mediocre, so I was very skeptical beforehand, which was a good thing. I guess it meant I could be surprised more. I was impressed by the dark and gloomy atmosphere from the first episode. I was quickly caught up in the grey, corrupt, and crime-ridden environment, and I found the main male protagonist quite appealing. Furthermore, when the charismatic male protagonist was joined by an even better and more charismatic villain/antagonist, whom I understood and honestly felt quite sorry for at times, I really enjoyed their fights and the struggle to save the city (after all, they were both being sincere). As for the brutality and the fact that we occasionally see some broken bones, a festering wound, or instructions on how to bash someone's head in with a car door, I did not mind that. It is more like something I have come to expect in an anime series with that kind of atmosphere (they are not going to change the spots on a leopard). Otherwise, the most positive thing about this show is that it shows us that nothing is black and white or without issues. It also throws up questions regarding morality and ethics (like how far can I go in fighting crime without becoming a criminal myself?) in a way that  could be understood by anyone. In summary, and going back to the original question, I started with: "Is it really that good?" My answer after watching the first season is "Yes, it is." 9/10.

Más allá del límite, estaré aquí (2015)

inglés When I found out that this first part of a two-part movie project is actually just a retread of what happened in the 2013 anime series Beyond the Boundary, I was not too keen on the idea. However, given the fact that the second part, Beyond the Boundary Movie: I'll Be Here - The Future, has also already been released, I figured I would watch both of the two parts (they were released at around the same time). Certainly, squeezing a twelve-episode anime series narrative into an hour and a half is not really possible, and it is clear that the anime's creators had to do some extreme editing. Fortunately, in my opinion, they were quite successful and only picked out the highlights. So they rehashed what happened in the anime series, and my final impression is essentially the same. I liked the two main protagonists, especially Mirai, whom I liked very much. I enjoyed the mysterious and rather original narrative, and I liked the rather good, in my opinion, love story element. I also remembered that I had been put off from giving it a full rating back in 2013 by the not-so-great ending and especially the very end, which serves tries to bring everything to a head emotionally. So I was again slightly put off by the conclusion of this movie. Anyway, the soundtrack and animation are good, and I thought the movie adaptation of Beyond the Boundary was simply above average. 7/10.

Más allá del límite, estaré aquí (2015)

inglés I liked this follow-up to the anime series Beyond the Boundary. It indeed had its shortcomings concerning its logic and the behavior of the two main protagonists. SPOILER ALERT. One of the characters tries to protect another character, but the person in question does not want that at all. END OF SPOILERS. I have seen it several times in the first anime series, and so even though I could have expected it, it annoyed me a bit. If Akihito had taken a different approach, told Mirai how it was, and then they tried to face everything together, the follow-up would not have had to be so insanely emotional. On the other hand, it probably would have been boring without all the emotional aspects. So actually, I guess thanks for that. Also, I was quite happy that the crazy plot twist from the end of the anime series (or first anime movie) was explained and that I thus learned how such a thing is possible. The narrative is slightly cliched in some aspects and it is actually like a romance described in a trashy novel, although I have to say I still quite enjoyed it. I am quite happy with this ending to the anime series. I liked the animation and the soundtrack too. All in all, again above average 7/10.

Mikagura gakuen kumikjoku (2015) (serie)

inglés This show is a terrible load of crap with a weird story and crazy characters, dominated by the crazy and horny Eruna, and for some unknown reason, I enjoyed it. The hyperactive, hysterical, perverted, and insane Eruna was quite entertaining. I guess even shows like this get to me sometimes, which is why I give practically every release a chance at the beginning of every year. However, luckily I did not completely lose my judgment, so the rating is the better side of three stars. 6/10.

Military! (2015) (serie)

inglés Miritari! is pretty mad and stars little girls with army weapons and equipment. I thought it was quite cute. Occasionally I even got a slight chuckle out of something and since the running time of one episode is only four minutes, it does not bother me. However, it did not give me anything other than the above, and this is not satisfying enough to make it at least an average show, so it is only worth two stars.

Momokuri (2015) (serie)

inglés Love can take different forms. It can be passionate, crazy, romantic, dangerous, beautiful, etc. However, you can sum up the love between the protagonists in this show in one word - cute. The main male protagonist is appealing, the main female protagonist is shy, which is adorable, and the interaction between them and how they both blush regularly in every episode is cute. It is an enjoyable way to watch two shy young kids who have a crush on each other and are trying to get together, even though it is very slow and clumsy due to their nature. Sure, Yuki "Kuri" Kurihara is rightly obsessed with Shinya "Momo" Momotsuki, and at times one can question whether this obsession is healthy or whether it is stalking. However, as Yuno Gasai taught me in Future Diary, anything goes, and Kuri is not a danger to anything or anyone. Plus, her interest in Momo is pretty cute to watch. It is enjoyable, fresh, and appealing; plus, it has just the right running time to keep me from getting bored. I kind of like it. 7/10.
