The Spy - The Immigrant (2019) (episodio)
The opening episode worked as a decent introduction. I had no idea what I was getting into, so I appreciated the creators quickly setting the framework, showing who’s who, and nicely transporting me back in time.
London Spy (2015) (serie)
Although the creative team didn’t manage to keep up the quality of the first three episodes until the end, it was still enough for five stars by a wide margin. This was a series with an interesting concept, and I was struck by how often it could do without words. Scenes without dialogue were often enough to express everything important, and yet (or precisely because of that) they managed to create an incredibly unsettling atmosphere and decent suspense. While Bond girls mostly serve only as eye candy, poor Turner boy had to work hard all the time without being able to achieve success. I liked the series despite its awkward conclusion.
London Spy - If This Is a Lie (2015) (episodio)
It just wasn’t the same anymore. The previous episode was the spy’s magnum opus, but here I didn’t like Frances's epiphany. On the plus side, the atmosphere was well done, and there wasn’t a nonsense happy ending.
London Spy - I Know (2015) (episodio)
The first serious disappointment in the series. Maybe it would have been better if Danny hadn’t opened that unfortunate flash drive. Alex’s/Alistair’s mysterious project felt silly after its unveiling. Everything else was fine, but the creators should have thought this part through more.
London Spy - Blue (2015) (episodio)
The plot was a bit weaker, but still a solid above-average compared to other series. The helplessness against an all-powerful opponent fascinates me. Plus, Jim Broadbent's performance is a joy to watch — absolutely perfect. The tension wasn't as high as in previous episodes, but the atmosphere was outstanding. 5*-
London Spy - Strangers (2015) (episodio)
The creators nailed the atmosphere, amped up the suspense, and developed the story so well that I completely understand why it's sometimes too much for the main hero to take.
London Spy - Lullaby (2015) (episodio)
At first, I thought I had completely missed the mark with this series. The testosterone-fueled romance didn’t do much for me, but then things took a turn. I got to enjoy a perfect atmosphere, excellently built tension, and top-notch performances.
True Detective - Season 3 (2019) (temporada)
If you enjoyed the third season, you’d better stop reading. If you haven't seen it yet, stop reading and go form your own opinion. I'm actually writing this review just for myself to vent the frustration that came over me after finishing all eight episodes. The opening made me look forward to a crime series full of suspense and great atmosphere. Instead, I got a weird mixture of a crime series and Memento. Some of the episodes were mysterious, others even more mysterious, but the fairy tale/soap opera-like conclusion spoiled all the mystery there was. 3*-
True Detective - Ahora dan conmigo (2019) (episodio)
This one hit me right in the face. If I’d known the finale would end with such a cheap happy ending, I wouldn't have complained as much about the earlier episodes. All that was missing was an announcement that everyone lived happily ever after.
True Detective - El último país (2019) (episodio)
The seventh episode was a bit livelier than the previous four, but still not enough for a better grade. I can’t shake the feeling that the creators lured me in with an excellent opening only to deceitfully disappoint me afterwards.
