Simon's Cat (2008) (serie)

inglés An adorable little thing. I was worried that Tofield would copy Garfield, and thankfully those worries were unwarranted. Cats are an endless source of inspiration. I am happy I don’t have any at home.

Looney Tunes: Best of Road Runner 1 (2005) (compilación de vídeo)

inglés "My favorite Looney Tunes cartoons (especially Coyote) on one 100-minute DVD? I’m in heaven!" That's kind of how I reacted when I got my hands on this plastic box. The issue I have with it is that among the slapstick, there are several shorts in which neither Coyote nor Roadrunner appear. So much for reproach. Otherwise, I praise the interesting bonuses. Five bright stars.__P.S. Willy's gonna get that son of a bitch one day. I know it!

Jonah Hex (2010)

inglés After three years, I gave Jonah Hex a second chance... And suddenly, somehow, it was better. It’s still not good or maybe it’s less stupid, but it’s also somehow more fun or something. Josh Brolin is perfect for the role and the atmosphere is really good in places, as is Malkovich's villain and his amusing (underused) sidekick Fassbender, but there is a lot of dullness. The most incomprehensible thing, however, is that the villains shoot ordinary cannonballs that do no harm at the city from a giant superweapon first, and only at the end do they use the special one that blows everything away in a second. Nevermind. Thank you for Beltrami's music and the waking the dead scenes, which are probably the best Jonah Hex has to offer. It’s average, but with a more entertaining script it could have been a good western with a Hellboy atmosphere. Just like the book.

Diario de una niñera (2007)

inglés I was expecting a slightly funnier affair, but even so, The Nanny Diaries was at least on the whole an enjoyable, relaxing and distracting film. Scarlett Johansson (as in Iron Man 2) is really good with dark hair and tries to do what she can, but the script doesn't give her too many moments that would make her stand out. Her bonding with her little charge is endearing, though - unlike the lazy romantic line with Chris Evans. I loved how Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti handled their roles - both are almost unrecognizable, and Mr. X in particular is a slime-ball of the first order. Praise also goes to the playful soundtrack and the imaginative opening with scenes from the museum. Three stars are just right for The Nanny Diaries - it didn't deserve less or more.

Asuntos pendientes (2004)

inglés 36th Precinct gives you a whiff of the good old days, when all those Gabins, Venturas and Delons were swarming in front of French movie cameras. On the one hand, we have an excellent central pair of actors, a coldly raw story (which may turn out well, but may just as well turn into a tragic slaughter) and an unenviable oppressive atmosphere. On the other hand, there is an effort by the director and screenwriter(s) to make the film "watchable" for everyone, including the younger generation, and so the calm pace is disturbed by almost unnecessary action inserts for my taste.... And as much as I'd like to, I won't give it a fifth star for that. Nevertheless, the film is excellent. And I especially bow to Depardieu.

El rey pescador (1991)

inglés A beautifully human, sweet, warm, fantastical and dramatic, moving and above all, for me, unforgettable story. I filled in two huge gaps with The Fisher King. I got to see the superb acting of Williams and Bridges and the work of Terry Gilliam, which had eluded me to this day. It is difficult to comment in more words. Amazing.

Dalskabáty, hříšná ves aneb Zapomenutý čert (1976) (telepelícula)

inglés Flawless, what more is there to say? Jaroslav Moučka was perhaps really born for Trepifajskl, Jiřina Bohdalová plays Plajznerka in a very pleasantly "non-Bohdalovian" way... And the supporting roles! Květa Fialová, Josef Větrovec, Josef Bláha... Perfect! This film is more than a fairy tale - it's first and foremost a great TV production with perfect acting performances that I always enjoy.

BloodRayne (2005)

inglés Well... Hmm... It's not garbage, but it is a bad film. I was probably most disappointed by the departure from the PC game's story - I was expecting to see Rayne slicing the bodies of the Wehrmacht in slow motion, but alas. Mr Boll decided otherwise and tried (which was an effort that should be appreciated) to spice up the story with a classic revenge motif and a look at the vampire's origins. That his attempt failed is another matter. At least the film has cast so many familiar faces (how does he talk them into it?) and BloodRayne thus beckons the type-accurate Kristanna Loken in the lead role and the slimy Kingsley, the likable Madsen and the mega-creepy Meat Loaf or Kiera in supporting roles. I'm giving one star for the cast, a half star for a couple of funny scenes, and rounding up for the incredible fact that I finished this film and didn't find it to be insufferably idiotic.

Escapada perfecta (2009)

inglés It's not shocking, it's not terribly clever, but it's damn funny! I was surprised by Steve Zahn, who certainly didn't resemble any of his "usual goofballs", and I was pleased by the nice actresses with Milla in the lead, but Timothy Olyphant was clearly the best of all. His character may have acted like something out of a cheesy B-movie, but the way he played it was breathtaking. Director Twohy deserves praise for the hellishly dense atmosphere and for the fact that the film doesn't get boring even in the passages when the characters just talk to each other. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the ending, but I'll give it four stars anyway.

Fortysomething (2003) (serie)

inglés A series that doesn't rely on avalanches of jokes and continuous volleys of laughter, but tries to be as believable and human as possible. Hugh Laurie's confused hero has to win everyone over, but Anna Chancellor, their three serial children and, of course, the winking and never-failing Stephen Fry are also very entertaining. I also give four and a half stars for the approach of the authors and the reasonable number of episodes - six hour-long episodes are just enough to keep the ideas fresh and not threaten their repetition.
