La hija de Drácula (1936)

inglés The original film is not without its faults... And this one is a little worse. But it’s not bad, and in places is briskly courageous. Above all, Gloria Holden is excellent, and her countess, who would like to get rid of the family curse but doesn't know if it’s possible, was a joy to watch. It’s just too bad she got a lot less space than Dr. Garth’s lemonade romance with his assistant, which I would be happy to remove, or at least properly intertwine.

The Umbrella Academy (2019) (serie)

inglés After what they did in episode six, I wanted to bite the creator in anger, but on the other hand, I laughed at the cynical joke for quite a long time, and from this episode until the end, Umbrella Academy didn't have a single mistake. Not that it was missing anything from the start, but it really stepped on the gas in the second half. This series has made me very happy mainly with how different it is, how strange it is... And how the otherness and weirdness endured to the very end. As in the book, there are a lot of things going on here, but it doesn't mean you will get an explanation right away. Just like in the book, the characters here are superbly incongruous, full of their own traumas, with complicated interrelationships... When they want to, they entertain you, they make you feel, and there's no shortage of surprises. And for those who know the books and are looking forward to Poga... Go ahead and look forward!

Alita: Ángel de combate (2019)

inglés I was a little worried about Robert Rodriguez, but James Cameron's name carefully balanced them, I don't know the original, and I generally don't like manga too much, but I did like the teasers... So I went into Alita thinking that it could turn out any way possible. And it turned out so great! The biggest trump card is definitely the main protagonist, because the viewer, or perhaps everyone, must surely fall in love with Alita. The animation is as perfect as it can be, and although I initially stared at it with my mouth open, I gradually stopped seeing it, taking Alita as a completely normal character whose digital likeness was only reminded of every now and then. I trusted her every emotion, every smile or frown, anger and sadness - it really needs to be seen. It is perhaps even a small step higher than the digital characters in Ready Player One. And for many other characters, the special effects were similar - maybe for Ed Skrein, playing the role of the hired hunter, only a face mounted on a “terminator" (er) body was left... And it doesn't feel odd for even a second. But what would be the point without a good story, right? And here, there is thankfully also a good story. I enjoyed gradually revealing what was going on in that unknown and new world (26th Century Fox), what happened to it and why. I liked Christoph Waltz's paternal character and the motorball got to me like the glider races in Star Wars. The pleasant thing was that the script didn't need to slavishly explain everything and hid a lot of it in for the next film. And I hope there will be a sequel, because I haven't wished good things this much for a long time on a new film (a non-established brand).

IO (2019)

inglés It's boring. A very good short story could have been created from the subject matter, but there is simply too little here for a feature film. The viewer knows ahead of time that which is supposed to be surprising, and what is supposed to impress him or her emotionally leaves him cold, because he or she is happy to be awake at all. However, Margaret Qualley I would like to see again, but in a good film.

Las mujeres perfectas (2004)

inglés The weakest Frank Oz film I've seen so far... I was especially astonished at how he didn't even try to build a mysterious atmosphere, and almost everything that others would hide for the end, he actually disclosed from the beginning. The ending was completely moronic, but even so it seems to me that it wasn't bad, but simply just an average black comedy that was supposed to be better.

Lásky Kačenky Strnadové (1926)

inglés A Kačka-ston dance, a cheese race and hammering shoes with salami, a detective investigation, an undercover staff member in a pub and helping someone get into their coat... Although The Loves of Kačenka Strnadová is not as good as The Lovers of an Old Criminal and is rather on the level of Falešná kočička (only with the long book and damaging runtime), Vlasta Burian made me enjoy myself (at times) for the third time as if it was a film with sound. Of course, I prefer to hear him and when the poor guy doesn't have to roll his eyes so hard, but it's still fun. Good fun.

Stranger Things - Season 1 (2016) (temporada)

inglés It's like a wonderfully filmed great book... Only with the difference being that there is no book. It is all the more necessary to admire the work of screenwriters and directors who had not only a bunch of ideas, but also common sense, eight episodes were enough, and they managed to create a series in which there was no weak spot and a moment during which to yawn. Of the actors, I was very nicely surprised by David Harbour (a really good choice for the new Hellboy, if they really had to make that film) and Winona Ryder delighted. The kids were perfect.

María, reina de Escocia (2018)

inglés Not like this... Watch this film and then its almost eponymous 1971 predecessor and you'll see a difference that is almost abysmal. Both pictures have in common perhaps only the good casting of lead roles (Saoirse Ronan is amazing), beautiful costumes and music (Richter's really resembles Barry), but otherwise the new film is almost all bad. The plot is abbreviated, indistinctly jumping forward for years and perhaps even a decade, while Marie Stuart hardly ages in 25 years. There is good intrigue, but even a person who has some awareness of these events is unsure at times about what's going on. But the biggest minus of this new Mary is that it almost forces the viewer to open a book after the end and read about what actually went on. This not the case got the older film, because, adversely, you feel that you have learned everything essential.

Viudas (2018)

inglés The ambitious 12 Years a Slave didn't appeal to me too much, but Widows is a different matter altogether. I haven't seen so many characters in one (new) film in a while that are so well written and acted and that aren't wasted, and it's a downright joy to watch them. And when their story is interesting, thrilling, well shot and has something to surprise you with (and it does), there's nothing to worry about.

Christine (2016)

inglés For a very long time, no actress has impressed me as much as Rebecca Hall’s performance managed to. She's just fantastic, amazing, great and I feel like I've been through everything her Christine lived through. The film is a very sad probe into the soul of a person whom circumstances drive to a hugely extreme act, and it is certainly worth seeing, for the viewer to reflect in silence during the closing credits. About yourself, about others... Just to reflect.
