Kandidaten (2008)

inglés It doesn't matter that Nikolaj Lie Kaas once again shone in his role, as the relatively inventive story lacks a quality screenplay. The suspense and the atmosphere are decent, but the slightly overdone cinematography and the predictable ending don't allow it to break away from mediocrity to cinematic heights. (60%)

Tenías que ser tú (2010)

inglés I can't help it, but this pleasantly flowing romance set in the beautiful surroundings of Ireland was incredibly appealing to me. I'm quite shocked because I don't really seek out Amy Adams movies. I may have to rethink my relationship with her. Another pleasant surprise for me was Matthew Goode, whom I hadn't really noticed until now. Leap Year also features two absolutely splendid romantic scenes, and that silhouette scene by the lake ending with vomiting really amused me a lot. (80%)

1918-1939 : Les rêves brisés de l’entre-deux-guerres (2018) (serie)

inglés An outstanding TV series endeavor, which, in the form of a semi-staged documentary, follows the destinies of intriguing individuals against the backdrop of significant historical events. From the very first episode, I was swallowed by the plot and spit out with the last minute of the final episode. This is how I imagine that viewers could non-intrusively and captivatingly educate themselves about historical contexts of the past, which for some reason have eluded them so far. (85%)

La novia cadáver (2005)

inglés I'm not a big fan of Tim Burton, but this dark romance with his famous sharp wit was quite appealing to me. The story is a bit weaker, but the form is almost perfect and for the amazing piano scene I can forgive the minor flaws. (80%)

Martin a Venuše (2012)

inglés The subject matter may have been covered many times before and lacks a particularly original point, but thanks to the good cast led by Marek Taclík and the songs by Michal Hrůza, it's quite a pleasant movie. However, I wouldn't have to bend over backwards to see it again in the future, so it's unlikely. (55%)

Můj příběh (2019)

inglés The premise had quite a lot of potential, but I was very irritated by the clichéd script and the way the flashbacks were shot was hard to swallow. Nevertheless, considering it's a directorial debut, I decided to turn a blind eye and surprisingly found a few details that kept me engaged, allowing me to finish the film without much trouble. The traditionally great Vilma Cibulková did not disappoint, and even Vlastina Svátková in the title role was decent. Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised by Pavel Kříž, who, after portraying all those sleazy characters and psychopaths, seemed to return to the days long gone when he charmed women in his films. Additionally, his interactions with Martin Stránský, whose dialogue, delivered in his typical macho style, added some levity to the whole drama, were among the most light-hearted moments of the entire drama. Lavorare con lentezza (2004)

inglés "Democracy is the gun in the other guy's back." +++ Probably the only interesting idea I took away from the film. The question remains, however, whether one can agree with it at all, as well as with the life attitudes of the main characters. It's filmed engagingly, but the plot is quite confusing. (60%)

Arme riddere (2011)

inglés I like the Nordic sense of humor, but I didn't have that much fun here. Considering that the whole thing feels like a Norwegian offshoot of Quentin Tarantino films, I'm honestly a bit disappointed. I liked the cast quite a bit, but the script could have been more polished - at least the final passage. (55%)

La piel que habito (2011)

inglés I used to love Pedro Almodóvar's work. Nowadays my interest in his films has waned somewhat, but I do occasionally watch something. The Skin I Live In has a well-written script, which puts the film on par with Almodóvar's best work. However, the subject matter is so controversial and the central idea so difficult for me to stomach that I can hardly imagine myself ever resorting to watching it again in the future. (75%)

The Program (El ídolo) (2015)

inglés It's not a downright bad effort, but I'm bothered by the rushed first third of the story, which clearly calls for further development. And I'm even more disappointed in the utter lack of emotion of the whole narrative. I understand that on the one hand, considering the slimy character of someone like Lance Armstrong, the film portrays, however, at least a slight touch of emotion wouldn't hurt. (55%)
