inglés To kill such an interesting premise is an art in itself. Who’s responsible for it? Robert Longo? Note that he hasn't made anything since. I'm not surprised, but still, watch out for him in the future.

Fire Down Below (1997) ¡Boo!

inglés The guitar in Seagal's hands was probably meant to suggest to the viewer either that Seagal has something extra, or it was an artistic intention to make the viewer identify more with the main character. Of course, even if Seagal played guitar while blowing into a saxophone and drumming with his feet, it probably wouldn't help him.

Juggernaut (1974) 

inglés A very good disaster film for its day, shown several times on the then ČTV (hey, how about a repeat?). The final choice between "red and blue" is unforgettable, it was my childhood nightmare :)

Buscando a Nemo (2003) 

inglés The animation is breathtaking, the story is brilliantly conceived, touching and funny, the screenwriter deserves praise. Toy Story, Monsters inc. and now this, better and better. If this keeps up, I'm almost scared to think what else we'll get from Pixar. You'll see for yourself, but I can't help but share a few moments. During the scene when the little girl Dorla, the terror of aquarium fish, goes to get Nemo, the motif from Psycho is clearly audible and I couldn't help smiling at the great idea. I also loved the seagulls, who, although they only flash by for a few seconds, make you burst out laughing with their comic performance. And catching a school of fish, a matter of everyday life, will strike you as an extremely horrible thing, and I thought of Spielberg's Amistad and the blacks crammed in the hold. I know, kind of a weird analogy, but it felt that way, and Pixar has a great way of putting it.

Tras la linea enemiga (2001) 

inglés An American recruitment film, decently put together, with a surprisingly believable Wilson in an unusual role for him, but with an incredibly shitty ending that veers into unintended self-parody. The American audience may have cheered, stomped and clapped at the final scene in the cinema, but I was almost ashamed of its makers. The only positive I could see in this film is that it at least a little bit, albeit very distortedly, brings to light a great stain of European history, i.e. the Bosnian military conflict, which otherwise, with some exceptions, still escapes the interest of filmmakers.

El beso del dragón (2001) 

inglés A pretty pleasant surprise. It may be a B-movie, but it doesn't pretend to be anything profound, it's got pace and momentum and most importantly, Jet Li pulls no punches and evokes the old Bruce-Lee days in the final battle against a group of trainees. He even tries to act within his capabilities. Tcheky Karyo is a charismatic villain as he should be, and Bridget Fonda plays it like a dream. If Luc Besson's production workshop only churned out these kind of lighthearted films, I wouldn't have the slightest objection.

Robot Monster (1953) ¡Boo!

inglés "Doctor, let's put it this way, I saw a strange guy in a fur coat (probably an alien) nuke all of humanity on Earth. Only six people survived: a grandfather, a grandmother, a boy, a girl, a babe and a beefcake. They were the last threat to other dudes in fur coats on some other planet somewhere. And so the one in the fur coat kept walking through some desolate landscape to get them. And I was very sorry for him, walking all the time in that fur coat. Why didn’t he take it off? He's got nukes, he's got a spaceship, and he has to drag himself up the hills? Do you think that’s normal? But he wasn't without feeling, no no. He fell in love with the babe. And so he went after her, but she ran away with the beefcake and they planned their honeymoon. I don't know where they wanted to spend it, but a trip through a ruined Paris, coupled with a tour of the corpses, might not be bad. But I'm digressing… And I also saw a plasma screen made of paper, and I think some nutcase was blowing into a bubble blower, because there were bubbles flying around, but I don't know why. Yeah, and there were also dinosaurs, and… Ouch! Ouch! No, I’m not making it up. I really saw it, Doctor! Let me go, I don’t want a shot! Please! Help…”

Violencia en Manhattan (1987) 

inglés Street Trash is definitely not extremely bloody, as Pomo writes here (hello). You will hardly see any blood, but there are such "delicacies" as foosball with a severed penis (without blood), six people melting into a shapeless colored mass, there is even a scene with a bunch of homeless people jerking off while watching someone fuck, their walk and movements reminiscent of a bunch of zombies. There is also one bloated body that subsequently explodes (very similar to the fat man scene from Monthy Python's The Meaning of Life) and even a police investigator deliberately throwing up on a wanted murderer. And the story? The whole thing revolves around a liquor store where homeless people go to get a bottle of some beverage called Viper, after which they melt or explode. It looks very cheap, with lots of filth, shots of junkyards, disgusting individuals and a few surprisingly funny moments.

Tenebre (1982) 

inglés A very well crafted thriller. The story follows a classic, well-trodden template where the killer murders according to a book he is a fan of, so, nothing new. There’s also the final “surprising” twist, which at least for me was a bit predictable. What’s interesting, though, is the very stylish murder scenes, Argento uses a garish red-white contrast in each of them. White dresses, white walls (the scene when a severed hand scratches the entire pure white wall with an arcing motion is one of the most unforgettable), a white kitchen, a white sheet on a victim's body, and everywhere the red colour of blood fits like a glove. But I can’t say I was scared. Tenebrae is not a horror film, but rather a crime drama in which the murders are depicted in a slightly harsher way than is usual in this genre, which, of course, it’s to be expected from Argento.
