Daniel Ribeiro graduated in direction from the film department at the University of São Paulo. His short film You, Me and Him (Café com leite, 2007) won the Crystal Bear at the 58th Berlinale. Three years later he made another short I Don't Want To Go Back Alone (Eu não quero voltar sozinho), which again won many awards at world festivals. For his feature debut The Way He Looks (2014), he won the FIPRESCI Prize in Panorama at the 64th Berlinale, as well as the Teddy Award (for best LGBT themed movie) at the same fest.
