Born into a family of artists. Her father was the great film director Julio Bracho; her mother was the dancer Diana Bordes Mangel. Diana Bracho earned a BA in philosophy and English literature in New York in 1967. From 1970 to 1972, she studied acting in the workshop led by José Luis Ibáñez. She then moved to Oxford, England, where she studied the Alexander Technique and participated in the Experimental Theatre Club at Oxford University from 1975 to 1979. Throughout her acting career, she has appeared in over 48 films, 23 telenovelas, 10 short films, 22 plays, and six TV series, in addition to documentaries and special programs. She has also taken part in co-productions with Germany, Spain, France, England, and the US. As a writer, she has published four collections of poetry and essays. She has participated in many important film festivals, both national and international, as a member and president of the jury. She has garnered numerous awards for her work, such as the Luminous Prize, granted by CANACINE; the Silver Goat at the Monterrey International Film Festival; the Moon Award to A Life on Stage from Mexico’s National Auditorium; the Silver Mayahuel from the Guadalajara International Film Festival; two Ariels and three nominations from the Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences; several Heralds and Silver Goddesses; best actress at the Turks & Caicos International Film Festival; an acknowledgment from the Guanajuato International Film Festival; and recognition for lifetime achievement at the Ibero-American Film Festival in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, among many others. From 2002 to 2006, she presided over the Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences.
