He studied communications at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA) and took graduate courses at the American Film Institute (AFI) in Los Angeles. He worked in different areas of film production and as an assistant director. He has directed several commercials and won a number of prizes, and was selected to participate in the AICP Show, which is part of the permanent collection at MoMA in New York. His first film, Two Crimes (Dos crímenes), was presented at various international film festivals. His second feature film, Arráncame la vida, adapted from the novel by Ángeles Mastretta, was selected for the Oscar® Short List for Best Foreign Film, and won four Ariels and five Silver Goddess Awards, among other prizes. His first feature-length film as a director is Ciudades Desiertas, adapted from the novel by José Agustín.
