Biografía

Erika Frankel is a New York City-based filmmaker. Most recently, she produced THE HOME TEAM (2014, SXSW, AFI DOCS), a documentary short that follows the biggest basketball game of the year in tight-knit, all-American Murray, Kentucky. Previously, she produced ANNIE: IT'S THE HARD KNOCK LIFE (2013, PBS), a feature documentary on the 2012 revival of the Broadway musical that received rave reviews from The New York Times ("delightful"), Entertainment Weekly ("a must see," A-) and The Onion's A/V Club (A-).

She was also the producer of FRONTRUNNERS (2008, SXSW; 2010, Sundance Channel), a smart and funny look at the hard-fought race for school president at Stuyvesant High School in New York City, which screened around the world at festivals and as a selection of the US State Department's first American Documentary Showcase. The film was theatrically released by Oscilloscope Pictures and was praised by The New York Times, Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly and NBC.

She has produced numerous programs for television including PBS's NOVA scienceNOW (profiles of a paleoanthropologist and a computer hacker), SUPERHEROES (three-hour-long series on the history of comic book superheroes), MAKE 'EM LAUGH (six-hour-long series on the history of American comedy), The Discovery Channel's EARTH 2050 (hour-long special on the future of energy) and many others.

She began her career as a production assistant for legendary documentary filmmaker Charles Guggenheim and as an associate producer on several episodes of the PBS series AMERICAN MASTERS: GORE VIDAL (2003, Sundance), JONI MITCHELL and WOODY ALLEN. She studied anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania and is currently directing her first film, a feature documentary on the last few tumultuous years in the kitchen of one of the most lauded restaurants in the country, Georges Perrier's Le Bec-Fin in Philadelphia.
