Biografía
Es un crítico de cine estadunidense que también ha dirigido cuatro documentales sobre el tema: Visions of Light (1992), Claudia Jennings (1995), Forever Hollywood (1999) y Man of Cinema: Pierre Rissient (2007). Es autor de Howard Hawks: Grey Fox of Hollywood, un clásico libro sobre el director y productor Howard Hawks.
