Leyla Bouzid grew up in Tunis. In 2003, she left for Paris to study French literature at the Sorbonne before studying filmmaking at La Fémis. In 2006 she co-directed her first short film, Sbeh el Khir, which was followed by her graduation film, Shudders, which she shot in her country of origin a few months before the revolution. Her next film was Zakaria (2013), a short film shot in southern France with non-professional actors. In 2015, her first feature film, As I Open My Eyes, was awarded at the Venice Film Festival before being selected by Seminci to screen in the Meeting Point section. A Tale of Love and Desire is her second feature film.
