Biografía

Esteban Zul is an independent filmmaker and political satirist. Zul founded the seminal Chicano rap group "Aztlan Nation" in 1989. He is also cofounder of uproariously funny underground rag, "Pocho Magazine" 1990- 1999. In 1995 Esteban Zul co-wrote and directed the mock-u-mentary "Hispanics for Wilson" which featured an actual television appearance on Telemundo's "Sevcecc" show by Pocho Magazine staff members. The Pocho guys posed as a rabid self- deportation group led by Daniel D. Portado. The film won the Freewaves competition earning the satire national broadcast on cable TV. Esteban Zul was selected for Fox Searchlab's director's program in 2002 where he co-directed the short film "Paco's Suitcase Bomb" Esteban has co- written two feature length comedies, "Taco Truck the Movie" New Line Cinema and "Lowrider" FOX 2000. He was also the recipient of a Rockefeller fellowship grant in 2000. In 2003 Zul was awarded the "Taos Talking Pictures Cineaste Award" for his work in Chicano satire. Esteban Zul can be heard cohosting "The Pocho Hour of Power" in the greater Los Angeles area.
