Seyi

Biografía

New York Filmmaker Seyi was a musician and performer at an early age. He wrote and directed his first film, Don't Explain, in 1998. From 1998 through 2001, Seyi toured with several national musical acts, filming concerts and documenting behind-the-scenes moments for Sarah McLachlan, Ben Harper, Blues Traveler and Joan Osborne. In 2003 Seyi traveled to Paris where he co-wrote and directed the film Eux. Seyi has directed music videos for New York based artists Daphna Dove and Alfredo Hidrovo among others. He has also produced and directed numerous corporate and commercial films.

After seeing the Sean Bell shootings in 2006, Seyi started really looking into the NYPD and did his first documentary film, If I Die Tonight. That award-winning documentary explored the issue of racial profiling from several perspectives and experiences. The controversial film is praised for its power, relevance, "street-smarts" and its balanced view, giving air to concerns of both the victims of police violence and of police officers and their families. This powerful follow up looks at whether anything has actually changed in the ensuing 7 years now that the Sean Bell verdicts have finally come in.

Educated at one of London's Premiere acting schools, East 15, Seyi then went on to study music composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Regardless of the genre of film, his work showcases his ability to extract and portray the most salient aspects of the human experience. As an active and respected member of the New York film community, Seyi is known as a filmmaker with a highly original, sensitive and powerful voice.
