Biografía

Niels Arden Oplev graduated from National Film School of Denmark in 1989 when his film 'Kyndelmisse' and his documentary 'Hugo fra Himmerland' provided him with a handsome debut with 4 international awards and 2 nominations. For DR/Danish Broadcasting Corp. Niels Arden Oplev directed the drama documentary 'Den sovende' (1990) and the short fiction films 'Tusmørke' (1990) and 'Nøgen' (1992), the documentary 'Ritualer, enerum' (1992), and the television film 'En succes' (1993).

Niels Arden Oplev directed nine episodes of the series Taxa/Taxi' (1997-99, DR 1, Denmark);. among them the final episode. His work for television continued with 2002 International Emmy Award winner 'Rejseholdet/Unit One' (2000-2003) - as the director who set the ball roiling with the three initial episodes he developed the visual concept for the series and cast the recurrent roles. After doing the same job for 'Forsvar/Defense' (2003-04 - TV2/Denmark) he came back to DR1 as the conceptual director of 'Ørnen/The Eagle'. The series has just won the International Emmy for 2005 in New York.

His feature film debut 'Portland' (1996) was the first and most controversial film in the "new wave" of Danish films from the mid nineties. The film, portraying a violent underground in the northern and rural part of Denmark, was selected for competition at the Berlin Film Festival,(1996) it opened the Danish film week(1997) in Lincoln Center in NY, and was critical acclaimed in Hollywood Reporter and the NY press. Niels Arden Oplev then made the crazy black comedy 'Fukssvansen/Chop Chop' (2001) for the silver screen. The film won 3 Danish film awards.
