Biografía
Nació en Osaka. Se graduó de la Universidad de Tokio con Grado de Artes en Cine. En Nueva York ingresó a la Escuela de Artes Visuales. Su primer largo Echoes (2001) fue premiado en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Annonay, en Francia. Big River (2006), se proyectó en festivales como Berlín, Sao Paulo y Shanghai. Deep in the Valley (2009), su primera película japonesa, fue invitada a Berlín y numerosos festivales.
