Galina Pavlovna Vishnevskaya

A legend of the Russian opera stage Galina Pavlovna Vishnevskaya was born in 1926 in Leningrad, and started her creative activity in the Leningrad Operetta Theatre. From 1952 to 1974, she was a soloist at the Bolshoy Theatre, where she performed more than thirty parts. In 1955 she married Mstislav ostropovich, with whom her life and art has been inextricably linked.In 1974 Rostropovich and Vishnevskaya left the USSR, and in 1978 they were stripped of their Soviet nationality. In 1990 the musicians had their citizenship restored,and soon after Vishnevskaya returned to Russia. In 2002 she opened a Centre for Opera Singing in Moscow. Galina Vishnevskaya has sung on all the major stages of the world. She is a titled artiste of the USSR, and has won many international prizes and awards.
