Lesya ha cometido un crimen pasional por el que es sentenciada a siete años en un correccional de mujeres en Odesa. Acaba de dar a luz a su primer hijo y ahora va a entrar en un mundo poblado únicamente por mujeres: reclusas, enfermeras y guardias, mujeres de todas las edades, esposas y viudas, hijas, hermanas, embarazadas y también mujeres con hijos. De no ser por el color del uniforme, a veces sería difícil decir quién es quién. (San Sebastian International Film Festival)

A perfectly crafted theme set in the gloomy environment of a women's prison in Odessa, Ukraine. The average person doesn't get the chance every day to take a peek inside and doesn't even particularly care to. Slovak director Peter Kerekes has made a great job of blending documentary with movie, and I found the result surprisingly engaging. I didn't feel sorry for the mothers serving time for serious crimes, but I did feel sorry for the children born there. In terms of character, I was very impressed by the warden Irina, who was involved in censoring prison correspondence quite extensively. (85%)
