La protagonista de esta película, Frances Lacey (Kathy Bates), es una viuda con seis hijos que busca una vida mejor. Tiene mucha energía y quiere luchar por su familia. Decide que deben irse de Los Angeles a un lugar que les ofrezca más posibilidades. Acaban en una casa, en el valle de Idaho, que deja mucho que desear. Es vieja y está medio en ruinas pero ella está convencida de que es el lugar idóneo para empezar de cero. Even though this is very straightforward and it's clear that it's going to try to squeeze emotions out of you, I still enjoyed it. Partly because Kathy Bates is just great and incredibly believable, and partly because of the great child actors. I don't buy the ending, it's too much of a happy ending for me, but otherwise, the film simply got to me.
