The beautiful Illés Anna gets engaged to the ageing lawyer of the radio factory, Pap István, in order to save her father's bankrupted radio-store. The wealthy bridegroom gives Anna a platinum brooch as an engagement present, but the brooch is stolen by a pickpocket. Later, it gets to Zizus, the prostitute, who drops it by accident in the apartment of Pákay András, the director of the radio factory who got drunk at a party. The next morning Pákay, remembering nothing, asks his lawyer to hand over the accidentally found jewel to the police. The lawyer immediately breaks his engagement to his fiancée whom he believes to have been unfaithful.
