Miss Moffat es una mujer procedente de Inglaterra que va a vivir a un pueblo minero que existe desde 1900 y se queda completamente asustada al ver niños trabajando en las minas. Tras una semana de estancia un hombre le comenta que esos niños ya son hombres viejos. Impresionada por esa actitud Miss Moffat decide hacer algo con los niños: escolarizarlos, y en especial un alumno aventajado. Katherine Hepburn protagoniza con brillantez esta exquisita versión del director George Cukor basado en la obra de Emilyn William. Se trata de la décima y última colaboración entre Hepburn y Cukor. Hepburn encontró un atractivo especial en el guión con su mensaje de fe. Hepburn comenta "Todo el mundo habla hoy en día de los problemas de la vida" pero "en esta obra se tratan las posibilidades". Hepburn encabeza esta obra maestra llena de dulzura y esperanza logrando una gran valoración cinematográfica (texto oficial de la distribuidora)
