Carl Kolchak is a character that was intriguing in The Night Stalker but it was shown in The Night Strangler that his shelf life might not be very long. Eventually, he did make a cameo appearance in the series, but unfortunately, his story, at least in film form, was not very revelatory. And The Night Strangler didn't even have the interesting atmosphere that the first film managed to conjure up.
