Sinopsis(1)

Count Antonio Grivelli is accompanied to Venice by Ellen Harriman, a millionaire over-whelmed by boredom. The woman previously walked out on her fiancé, leaving him behind. The young man, who is in debt and has the bailiff as his regular visitor, receives a letter, in which a proposal is made for him to marry an American millionaire, chosen especially for this purpose, but he takes no heed of the offer, tearing up the letter. Ellen accidentally finds parts of the torn-up letter, thinking that she is the one recommended for marriage; understandably, she is led to believe that Grivelli has a marriage of convenience on his mind by courting her. In the meantime, Ellen's father, James Harriman arrives, and buys the Grivelli palace for his daughter and her future husband. Eventually, the count does not have to move out as it is himself who marries Ellen, who becomes reconciled when she learns, reading the missing part of the ominous letter of recommendation, that it refers to someone else, not herself. Her abandoned fiancé has found comfort in Ellen's waiting maid. (texto oficial de la distribuidora)
