Sinopsis(1)

Jella lives in a village in the mountains of Transylvania. She fights a solitary battle against the men courting her aggressively and the malevolence of the village community, her ill-reputed mother being expelled from the village for her immoral lifestyle. One day, she is attacked by a group of lads from the village. Thrown into a fright, she tries to escape across the forest, ending up near the house of Balogh Péter, a track-watchman. The elderly man, who is a loner, gives her emotional comfort. After her mother's death Jella marries the man. They live in undisturbed happiness until the appearance of Réz András, a trackman, seems to upset their relationship. The two young people fall in love with each other. András suffers from remorse for possibly ruining the elderly man's happiness. He returns to his native village. He then returns, married to another woman. When the news of his marriage reach Jella, she dashes off to the railway track, rolls a huge piece of rock onto the track and, out of her mind, runs into the tunnel to be run over by the train András is on. Péter runs after her and is in time to remove the rock from the track, but it is too late now to save his wife. (texto oficial de la distribuidora)
