Sinopsis(1)

The perfidious forester Ločák has seduced the pretty Liduška and the affair has brought serious consequences. The girl's aunt persuades her to put the child into an orphanage and marry the wealthy farmer Pakosta. Two woodcutter families live outside the village - the Řehoříks are decent people who have one son, Ondřej. The Vitouš' children have been affected by their father's alcoholism. Mrs. Vitouš has taken the little Jiřina from the orphanage so that she can receive money from the state for her upbringing. The couple do not treat the girl well and her only joy is her love for Ondřej. The drunken Vitouš offers Jiřina to the depraved Ločák, now a head forester, and only Ondřej and his parents prevent the worst from happening. Old Řehořík, however, pays for Ločák's revenge with his life. Mrs. Řehořík falls seriously ill and Jiřina runs out into the blizzard for help. She arrives at the Pakostas' house and Liduška recognises her own child. When Ločák realises that he had tried to seduce his own daughter, he is crushed with mortification and perishes in the blizzard. Ondřej and Jiřina finally find happiness together.
