After a run of bad luck, gambler "Lucky" Vincent owes over $12.000 to the gangster Solly Kramer. Lucky is rescued from Solly's thugs by a born-again Christian named Daniel Hughes who has a team of trained Doberman pinschers. When Lucky goes undercover at a circus, he convinces Daniel to create an act for the dogs and join him, which he does.
