Sinopsis(1)

The shadow of a dragon circles over the royal castle, Princess Caroline is trying on a mourning dress, and a couple of invited princes are feasting in the courtyard, neither of which wants to confront the dragon. In the end, only the puppeteer Vítek, who has long secretly loved Caroline, sets out to fight it. When things are hopeless, the witch Kitty Mama unexpectedly comes to his aid. The dragon is overpowered, but the Princess must not learn who is her rescuer - because, as Kitty Mama points out, good deeds are not done because of the prospect of reward. If he does, Caroline will be immediately given to the dragon… (Zlín Film Festival)

inglés This watchable fairy-tale spectacle kind of rides on the popularity of the currently very popular fantasy genre and, thanks to the not entirely dull script, the actors, the production design (fresh direction, decent special effects --> a not shy dragon, Brousek's very good music) and the fact that it is "different", it deserves attention. The only things that bothered me were the annoying and unnecessary character of the boy from the present (quite a lot), Dejdar's occasional overacting and the boredom that reigned at about halfway through the film. I really liked Libuše Šafránková's hippie witch, the sympathetic princess + puppeteer duo and I would like to praise the witty glosses delivered by (who else?) the charismatic Jiří Bartoška. Three and a bit. ()

inglés This is exactly the case why Czech fairy tales have been in decline for quite a while now. The story is quite simple, which wouldn't be a problem, but it is set in a strange Arabian anabasis with the real world. If this sequence was not there and the whole plotline with the boy was skipped, the story would basically remain unchanged. Even then, it would only be a forced fairy tale that would only be interesting because it is broadcasted during Christmas. ()
