Sinopsis(1)

In 1995, People in Need director Šimon Pánek led a humanitarian mission to Chechnya, delivering surgical and medical aid for a local field hospital. This “on the road”-style documentary captures the entire journey, from Prague to a hospital in Shali and the mountain town of Vedeno. Depicting dedication and bravery, it provides a timeline of the Chechen situation and outlines the history of its long-running conflict with imperial Russia. Archive materials from Agentura Epicentrum (a Czech press agency) that were shot before the war, in expectation of the conflict, are fused with testimonies from locals. Viewers are given an authentic picture of a military hospital. The Chechen struggle for independence and freedom remains pertinent today, when the regime of pro-Moscow President Ramzan Kadyrov goes to great lengths to create an impression of Chechen “normalisation”.
