Inspired by Hope Edelman's bestselling book, "Motherless Daughters," this documentary profiles three young women -- a Southern artist making sense of her past through her artwork; a high school senior struggling to gain independence; and a Brazilian living in NY, navigating first-time motherhood -- who all lost their mothers during childhood and are now at various junctions in their lives. Jane Fonda, Rosie O'Donnell and Molly Shannon also speak candidly to directors Carlye Rubin and Katie Green about their own experiences growing up without mothers and reflect on the complicated nature of the mother-daughter relationship.
