El periodista alemán Philip Winter recorre Estados Unidos disparando polaroids y buscando temas para un libro. Al no lograr la inspiración, su editor cancela el compromiso y Philip decide volver a Alemania. En el aeropuerto conoce a una mujer y como no hay vuelos hasta el día siguiente, pasa la noche con ella. La mujer desaparece y le deja el encargo de que vuelva con su hija Alice, de nueve años, hasta Ámsterdam, donde ella se reunirá con los dos. Pero la madre no aparece. Philip emprende un viaje con la niña para intentar localizar la casa de su abuela. Durante la búsqueda, su desagrado inicial se transforma gradualmente en cariño. (A Contracorriente Films)

A convenient connection of two worlds, two moments of human life. At the beginning, the main character drives through the USA - an alienated landscape, alone without deeper meaning or fulfillment in life, yet intensified by the surrounding and local (advertising) way of life. This is followed by a journey across The Netherlands and Germany - initially, the forced care for a child gives the main character feelings of satisfaction and a deeper reason for life. It has wonderful poetry, great cinematography and music, and Wim Wenders...

They meet by chance. He wants to go home because he has writer's block and cannot write a single article, she was just returning from the US to Europe with her mother. But her mother leaves her with him, a stranger. And so comes a surprisingly interesting and powerful road movie that seems as if it should never end. The black and white suits it.
