Peaky Blinders

So far an excellent series. Interesting environment and time and the casting is first-rate. Cillian Murphy proudly walks the line of the anti-hero and Sam Neill commands respect. I can’t wait for their confrontation... Best series of the year by far. Cillian Murphy is a perfect (positive) swine and he gives the character of Tommy Shelby the right, iconic contours. In terms of story, no complaints, everything is running smoothly, sometimes along familiar, sometimes along altered rails. The charged ending could be a great conclusion or cliffhanger. We’ll see what side the producer’s coin lands on. Season two: The scenes with Tom Hardy are worth playing again and again. His Alfie gives the Blinders a stamp of uniqueness. A great continuation of the already excellent first season which again goes a little further. The whole show has incredible style enhanced by a top-rate soundtrack. I would go as far as to say that you won’t find a better British serial on the box right now. Season three: An incredibly hyped ride, spiced with Russians, a seductive but depraved princess (almost Joker caliber) and great music again. The precisely chosen cast runs at one hundred percent. Amazingly written. Tommy taken down a few pegs. A surprising ending. Season four: Flirting with The Godfather... Italo-Americans arrive to perform their vendetta and Tommy at last has his hands full. Certainly one of the best series, also thanks to the fantastic build-up of tension in the finale. Tom Hardy is awesome. Alfie is certainly the best and least predictable character of the entire series. It really makes you think about blindness. Season five: Steven Knight trumps himself again and again with each new season. This time round, Peaky Blinders flirts with Nazism. The political flavor of this season thickens the atmosphere adding to the brew erratic elements such as the “strong young generation" = junky clever-clogs Michael and junkie idiot Finn. First-rate acting and at the end we are treated to one cameo that I hadn’t imagined in my wildest dreams. The zenith of British drama series. Why not? (07.12.2013)

Flirting with the Godfather ... Italian-Americans come to carry out a vendetta and Tommy finally has some work to do. This must be one of the best sequels also thanks to fantastically build-up towards the finale. Tom Hardy awesome. Alfie is definitely the best and the most unpredictable figure of the series. Steven Knight outdoes himself with every new season. This time Peaky Blinders flirts with National Socialism. The political tenor of the series thickens the atmosphere and adds further unpredictable elements such as the “strong younger generation" = drugged-up inventor Michael and drugged-up jerk Finn. Excellent acting performances and at the end we see one cameo that I hadn’t even dreamed of. The pinnacle of British drama series production. "She said that Gypsies made the nails used on the cross that Jesus was crucified on. That’s why we’re a cursed nation and we don’t stay put in any one place for long. We must keep moving, to stay ahead of our guilt." (18.10.2019)

Starts brilliantly, with the Wall Street Crash and the essential introduction of various plot lines. Tommy’s appearance in Parliament and the interview with the journalist are super. A powerful ending with the son full of hatred. No, I'm not God. Not yet. (30.08.2019)

The introductory fascist speech gets your blood boiling, but it really starts to get going after the evidence explodes. Smuggled sacks of flour, the visit to the looney bind and the fantastic scene with dad. And the reference to Mr. Solomons? Is there a flashback in store for us? Peaky Blinders on best form. After the depressing ending to the last season, which was further deepened by the death of Helen McCrory, the bar was extremely high, but Steven Knight wove a very powerful story about the search for love inside the soul of an insensitive Gypsy gangster into the historical setting of the beginnings of World War Two. It lacks the earthiness of the first five seasons, there’s much more politics, but the development is logical and makes sense. Perhaps in the role of a lifetime, Cillian Murphy gives Tommy Shelby’s departure for the New World incredible drive and solemnity. A final season as it should be. Good and fateful, full of death and farewells. P.S.: It was good to see the cameo by vocalist of the Sleaford Mods, Jason Williamson, in the final episode. (01.05.2022)
