Sinopsis(1)

"Masters of Sex" sheds a light on the professional and personal lives of Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson. Together they become pioneers in the science of sex by undertaking a groundbreaking study of the physiological aspect of the human sexual response. As with most visionaries, their personal lives are arguably more fascinating, complex, and revealing than the risqué research that touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western hospital to the cover of Time magazine. The drama is heightened by the surrounding cast of hospital coworkers, loved ones and neighbors struggling to comprehend and find their place in the brave new world of Masters and Johnson. Masters of Sex (2013)

inglés After Mad Men, this was another excellent series set in the 1950s to 1970s in the most democratic country ever. The first season absolutely blew me away with its perfect atmosphere of obscurantism and hypocrisy. Unfortunately, later on it started to fade a bit, but the story was enjoyable even without it. I don't think things have changed that much since the fifties. We have the space program, the Internet, and whatnot, but for many men, the word clitoris still seems to be a foreign word. The series could be enlightening for many people, but I’m guessing that in the US it’s R-rated, or else it might cause some irrevocable damage. Given my moral depravity, I greatly enjoyed the whole series. I just found the second season weaker, but the seasons after that were great again. ()

Season 1 (2013) (S01)

inglés The first season of the show was near perfect. As early as the 50s, the most democratic of all the world's democracies provided far more rights to women than to the rest of the kitchen equipment. The series reminded me of Mad Men, which had a similarly great atmosphere of hypocrisy. It's not surprising considering the fact that even these days nobody minds violent scenes on TV, but what happened to Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl was almost likened to a terrorist attack. And that's exactly what the show captures, and it does so brilliantly. ()

Pilot (2013) (S01E01)

inglés The first episode of this series was definitely worth it. I like it when a topic shakes narrow-minded puritans out of their comfort zone, such as prudish people, typical Americans, self-proclaimed moralists, and so on, so after the first episode, I can confidently say that I will definitely enjoy the series. And Lizzy Caplan also stars in it... ()

Race To Space (2013) (S01E02)

inglés I am still completely satisfied, I can totally see how the puritans are banging their heads against the wall in anger. The script, direction, and acting performances are on a high level and the retro atmosphere of the 1950s is absolutely luxurious. I don't even know what I would criticize about the episode, I simply liked it. ()

Standard Deviation (2013) (S01E03)

inglés The spare "lab" is still functioning, the conversations with prostitutes must have seemed extremely fascinating and interesting to the doctor, I found them extremely entertaining. I enjoy how the opinions of the majority society in the fifties didn't differ much from medieval opinions, I don't enjoy that it's still the same today. ()

Thank You for Coming (2013) (S01E04)

inglés It can be seen that a little bit of blackmail can be immensely beneficial for science. This episode focused more on personal relationships and family relationships, which were closely related to serfdom. However, I must reserve my judgment in full, because I found this episode to be extremely good and extremely interesting. ()

Catherine (2013) (S01E05)

inglés Even after watching the fifth episode, I haven't been disappointed. I already enjoyed the series Mad Men and I enjoy this one as well. I guess I have a preference for retro dramas from a country that is behind in terms of technology in the future, due to prejudice and the influence of the church in the distant past. Ordinary American citizens don't have Islamic villages with their typical inhabitants to blame for in this matter. ()

Brave New World (2013) (S01E06)

inglés Even though it is a drama, there are moments when I laugh like a lunatic. A typical example is the sexology lecture in the introduction of this piece. The course of the vacation in Florida is evidence that a scientist, who is fully immersed in the mysteries of their field, is not entitled to rest. ()

All Together Now (2013) (S01E07)

inglés The research is successfully continuing, despite being threatened by complications in selecting a new secretary. The atmosphere is still perfect, and I can only silently admire Dr. Masters, who doesn't hesitate to put his own skin on the line for the sake of science, while his deviant superior engages in disgusting sexual practices. ()

Love and Marriage (2013) (S01E08)

inglés The eighth episode is a family one, the study is still ongoing, but this time it serves as a background for expensive jewelry shopping, dance lessons, and the conception of a new life. There is also the filming of a very detailed nature documentary, but fortunately, it takes place on university grounds, so everything is surely okay. I have been greatly enjoying it for eight episodes already, and I hope it continues. ()

Involuntary (2013) (S01E09)

inglés The ninth episode brought another amazing result of puritan upbringing: a twenty-year-old person is scared to death after confronting the foreskin. At times, this drama could be an excellent comedy if such realizations were not more likely to cause tears, and if I didn't realize that not much has actually changed until today. Episode - 5*, society - rubbish. ()

Fallout (2013) (S01E10)

inglés The tenth episode seemed a bit weaker to me, the plot took a backseat and it focused more on relationship matters. I don't want to say it was an uninteresting episode, but it somewhat lost the right atmosphere, which the omnipresent threat of a nuclear attack couldn't thicken. ()

Phallic Victories (2013) (S01E11)

inglés I evaluate it the same way as the previous episode, I had a great time again, I wasn't bored for a moment, but I miss the atmosphere of ubiquitous puritan hypocrisy that I liked so much. I sincerely hope it will come back and that the annoying hallucinations of Doctor Masters will disappear instead. ()

Manhigh (2013) (S01E12)

inglés No, the disgustingly hypocritical atmosphere is back in full force! The creators have returned to Dr. Masters' scientific work in this episode, and they did a great job. The reaction to women's utterly disgusting ability to have an orgasm without the participation of a tribal male was to be expected. I'm glad I'm not homosexual and don't have to choose from the tempting array of options for my reeducation. The ending was pleasantly open, so I can look forward to the continuation. ()

Season 2 (2014) (S02)

inglés Overall, I'm happy with the second season, but unlike in the first one, I did notice some flaws this time. What annoyed me the most was that the great atmosphere connected to the all-pervading hypocrisy was gone. I was annoyed by the third episode which seemed to lack a plot and dealt too much with issues that could have been spread over more episodes. The two final episodes were excellent, though, bringing serious themes. Things were lightened up a bit by Dr. Langham, a character with great comedic potential. ()

Parallax (2014) (S02E01)

inglés The first episode of the second season seemed very good to me, it was like a tally of losses after the catastrophic impact of the study on the scientific team. Dean Scully is getting to know the "treatment" for his issue, the hypocritical atmosphere works, and the whole episode smoothly continued the first season of the series. ()

Fight (2014) (S02E03)

inglés Phew, this time the creators' intention somehow escaped me, because I don't understand at all what they wanted to convey to me with this boring episode. The plot dragged on like dissolved Turkish honey, there was a lot of boxing, a lot of talking about nothing, Doctor Masters made himself twice and Mrs. Johnson three times. That's probably everything in a nutshell. ()

Giants (2014) (S02E05)

inglés The fifth episode clearly pleased me, I always enjoy seeing that acclaimed American democracy in action. I had no idea how much I would be entertained by the storyline with Betty and Elizabeth turning into a nice little dragon, I am curious if Coral will attempt to strip the pigment with a steel brush, so far she is slowly heading towards that. ()

Mirror, Mirror (2014) (S02E08)

inglés Doctor Masters selflessly focuses his study on dysfunctions. Although the episode was full of psychology and unexpected family encounters, it did not bore me and I was pleased that the creators did not resort to pathetic repulsions. ()

Story of My Life (2014) (S02E09)

inglés The ninth episode seamlessly continued on from the previous episode, as Bill Masters slowly succumbs to despair, while Libby decides on maximum contrast. The themes opened up in the eighth episode are further developed, and considering there were many of them, there was plenty to watch. ()
