Hei pao shi jian

Zhao is an engineer and German interpreter at a mining company. After he sends a telegram at the post office with the words "Missing black cannon" after he has lost a black cannon chess piece on a business trip the Chinese authorities are immediately alarmed. Zhao is put under investigation and suspended at work. When German specialist Schmidt arrives he asks for Zhao's help but is given Feng, who doesn't know engineering, instead because Zhao is still under investigation. Despite many translation errors and Schmidt's repeated requests for Zhao, the party chiefs still refuse to reinstate Zhao even after manager Li has discovered that the black cannon is just a chess piece.
