Sinopsis(1)
Liam va a cumplir dieciséis años en unos días. Su madre, Jean, saldrá de la cárcel a tiempo para su cumpleaños, y él sueña con que ahora tendrán una vida familiar normal y feliz. Esto supone crear un lugar seguro para su madre, su hermana Chantelle y para él mismo, fuera del alcance de vagos como Stan, el novio de Jean, y de su propio abuelo, un ser mezquino. Pero para ello antes tiene que conseguir dinero, lo que es toda una hazaña para un adolescente sin blanca. Los disparatados planes de Liam no tardan en meterle en toda clase de problemas, relacionados con drogas y mafias. Al darse cuenta de que la situación se agrava peligrosamente, Liam es consciente de que debería irse, pero quizá esta vez sea ya demasiado tarde... (Alta Films)

52nd KVIFF – I only met Ken Loach once before this movie and he hasn’t yet become engraved in my consciousness. But when he accepted the Crystal Globe prior to this movie, I thought it would certainly have some justification and I started to really look forward to Sweet Sixteen. But as soon as the film started, a story of two fifteen-year-old brats who think theft changes lives was set in motion. I admit that at times it seemed like an interesting, conversation-heavy gangster movie, which at times, due to its locations, reminded me of the first movies by Guy Ritchie. But in the end, that’s all the movie remained.
