Sinopsis(1)

Penicillin, nuclear bombs, jet engines and the first computers all have two things in common. All of them were invented during World War II and behind all their inventions were key players in science and technology. This British documentary series presents important scientists and their work which changed the lives of future generations. Without them, the world as we know it today would not exist. The fate of a person and the time in which they lived are pivotal for the direction their research took. In the horrors of World War II, it was not only weapons of mass destruction that were born. There are various kinds of medicine used to treat infectious diseases as well as deciphering machines, the precursors to computers, that were invented during the War. In Out of the Darkness, the viewers are introduced to people whose talent and efforts made a difference to the outcome of World War II. This documentary combining unique historical shots and a dynamic style of cutting, features well known scientists from many fields, such as physicist Stephen Hawking. In spite of adversities in their respective lives, all of them managed to use their talent to benefit society and to turn hardship into advantage. (Academia Film Olomouc)
