La sexta Extinción

  • Estados Unidos The Sixth Extinction

Sinopsis(1)

In the past, we have registered five ages, during which there was a significant loss of animal and plant species. The cause of these extinctions were natural disasters – the fall of a meteorite, changes in climatic conditions, volcanic activity. Despite these changes, nature has managed to repeatedly recover, so the human species itself has got a chance. Nowadays, mankind significantly contributes to the overall transformation of living conditions on our planet: rising human population, deforestation, natural ecosystems transformation or global warming. These all are the issues nature has to deal with. Scientists point out that the problem lies not in the quantities of species getting close to extinction but rather in the speed of this decline for which we have no comparison. According to many, natural diversity is an important criterion for our survival. Today we ask: Do we stand on the threshold of the sixth extinction caused by mankind? Top British and Spanish experts, including Richard Dawkins and Richard Fortey, are trying to answer this question. (Academia Film Olomouc)
