Charred Brick

Young Thet never stops all day. From morning he helps his parents with household chores and cares for his four younger siblings. He washes dishes, does the laundry, chops wood and goes to work in the brickworks, because his parents don't earn enough money to feed the family. Many children in Burma must work just like he does. He would love to go to school, but unfortunately he does not have enough time. When he grows up, he would like to become an engineer, so even after a day's toil he attends night school. His dream for the future, however, depends on whether the school will still continue to operate, despite the small number of pupils. (One World)
