Sinopsis(1)

The story of Lithuanian photographer Vitus Luckus is puzzle, a romantic drama and art history all rolled into one. Like Giedre Zickyte's previous film, How we played the revolution, Master and Tatyana provides unique insight into the Soviet avant-garde culture of the 1970s and 1980s, this time using the nation's arguably finest photographer as the starting point. Vitus Luckus, who died in 1987, was not just a great art photographer but also the first big commercial photographer in the Soviet Union – as well as a bohemian who kept live tigers in his home. Through Luckus's widow, Tatyana, Zickyte paints a portrait of a life both passionate and broken, filled with lovely images from a forgotten artist's catalogue. (Göteborg Film Festival)
