After being released from prison, where he was put to for marriage swindling, Alfonz goes out to conquer again. He picks his next victim in the first-class cabin of a train moving towards a popular resort place. She is the charming daughter of a parvenu father. A man of refined manners, Alfonz, poses as a marquis, verifying his rank with a rented phoney-uncle. The parvenu father, whose secret dream is to have an aristocrat as son-in-law, is carried off his feet. His daughter loves a penniless composer, but at her father's insistence promises to say yes to the elegant suitor. However, the wedding does not come about.
